I THINK X

"I think x" is a non-profit unit and have been producing zines and related material from Peacehaven, Sussex since the closing issue of Burp in September '97. Since then they’ve launched into production on a series of one-off booklets and zines, including a poetry booklet, Irritable Vowel Syndrome, a rants and images zine, Ban Fake Orgasms by m’yk tea from Swansea-based Electro-Concrete Muzak project, and a zine of images and statements called If My Numbers Come Up. The latter is accompanied by a 60 minute experimental music and cut-ups tape made in association with Youkass and Devices/Idle Poska, who could be just about anyone for all most people know but it does give you an idea of the emphasis "x" places on working with other collectives and not just putting out their own material.
As well as all these projects, there is an ongoing ‘sketchpad’ zine called Nearly Got Sprung, featuring peoples’ sketchpad works, illustrations, found images, creative writing and eavesdropped bus conversations (always a winner), an interesting insight into the minds and lives of various unknown people. The mystery "x" (or at least its public face) is Vince Pollard, one of Peacehaven’s most organised and creative residents, holding these projects together with the creative passion and DIY attitude that makes "x" a vital and growing node in the UK underground. Their most recent service is the Mystery Zine Tour, where you send them a meagre quid and in return you get to wake up to a loud thud on your own doormat and a whole bunch of assorted zines.
